Here's to 2018!I don't know about you, but 2018 was not a great year. At least from my standpoint. Certain people involved in my life brought controversy and drama everywhere they went, and drama came about each time they communicated with others or rambled some nonsense on social media. As the saying goes, "c'est la vie," and I think we can all use this French phrase to apply it to our lives. But football was great, as sports always seem to bring people joy no matter what's going on in the country. So, as far as the 2018 NFL season is concerned, the regular season involved many points, incredible collapses, ineptitude, the inability to hit a quarterback without drawing a penalty, other inexcusable yellow flags flying and you guessed it... bandwagons. This year's most noticeable ones are the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys, ironically, two teams that once battled for the supremacy in the city of Dallas, Texas in the early 1960s. And now, the playoffs are upon us, which is like an extended holiday time for football fans. this year's ParticipantsAs many of you know, predicting NFL games and season predictions is about as easy as avoiding an obnoxious red-light camera in New Orleans. It's much harder than it sounds, as the NFL loves the term "any given Sunday." Now that sports betting is legal just about everywhere in the United States, I for one want to start making money to "gamble" on sports. I won't do that for this postseason, as the 12 lucky winners of the NFL's golden tickets to the playoffs will tell you that they did not want to sleepwalk on their playoff pushes. So, let's see who got something good in their stockings this year and didn't get the coal of a much longer offseason. In the NFC, we have the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks and the Philadelphia Eagles (defending champs). In the AFC, we have the Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Los Angeles Chargers and the Indianapolis Colts. Wait until you see how bad my predictions were in August! Dude, you suck!I know. Check out how optimistic I was back in August. I thought the NFC would have the New Orleans Saints, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, Atlanta Falcons and the New York Giants. And the AFC, I thought it would be the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs. So, it was only inevitable that I would jinx some of these teams. With that epic fail out the way, it's time to see if I do it again. THe moment of truthThe NFC seems to be more predictable than the AFC.
I see the Cowboys edging the Seahawks at home, and the Bears crushing the Eagles in the Wild Card round. Then the Saints get revenge on the Cowboys and the Rams barely get past the Bears in Los Angeles in the Divisional round. The Saints and Rams meet again in the NFC Championship, but the Saints sneak by the Rams to advance to Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. On the other side of the NFL world, I believe the Texans can hold on and beat the Colts at home, while the Ravens knock off the Chargers in Baltimore. The next week, the Patriots defeat the Texans and the Chiefs handle their business against the Ravens. In the AFC Championship, the Patriots upset the Chiefs by a field goal to advance to their third straight Super Bowl. My preseason pick of a Saints/Patriots Super Bowl is still in play, and it may come true. Feel free to give your picks and have a safe and virtuous New Year! Bring on 2019!
